Lakes of Katy to Night Jam
We are hosting a fantastic Saturday evening event during our Big Dawg Tourney. Go to http://www.katyskijam.com/ It’s
something similar to what Jay Bennett does with his Night Jam. What will interest the Big Dawg skiers on this list is we’ll
be having a silent auction for the Big Dawg competitors to bid on 8 spots to compete head-to-head at night in front of the
crowd. The amount of the auction will dictate the prize pot to the winner. Thanks to Dave Goode, we’ll have the lighted buoy
slalom course. So if you’re a competitor that doesn’t qualify for the finals on Sunday, you’ll have another chance to ski and
possibly win some coooool cash, not to mention, a large crowd to compete in front of.
Prilims on Saturday will run until about 6:30pm. After that, we’ll be doing waterski demonstrations for the crowds including
freestyle jump, barefoot freestyle, wakeboard, hydrofoil and plenty of crazy crowd pleasing stunts that’ll amaze everyone.
During those demos, the Big Dawg competitors will enjoy Texas style barbeque in the VIP area and will be bidding on those
8 spots to compete in front of the crowd. Once the sun goes down, the course will be lit up and skiers will take to the water
to show the spectators what the Big Dawg Series skiers are capable of.
Questions & Answers:
Q: Are all competitors eligible for the 8 spots, or just the ones that don’t make the finals?
Ans: I’m not up-to-speed on the Big Dawg fine print. As far as I’m concerned, anyone willing to bid and compete should be
eligible, but Big Dawg rules supersede the 8 man night run off. If rules state that skiers can’t ski the same course between
the semis and finals, then Sunday finalists are out (bummer). Personally, I’ll be happy with whomever elects to ski. The
main point of this night run-off is to give the local community & the families, that have a couple hours to come out on hot
Saturday evening, a chance to watch some extremely talented slalom skiers in a very competitive environment that can be
completed in about an hour. We’ll be partnering with the Houston YMCA and local Rotary club to get families and plenty of
kids out to watch the event.
Q: Is there a minimum bid for the night spots?
Ans: Min bid will be $50. Silent auction, highest bid wins. You’ll have about an hour to get your bids in.
Q: How will the prize pot be divided up?
Ans: 1st place takes 50% of the total pot, 2nd place 35%, 3rd place 15%. So if $1000 is collected, $500 to 1st, $350 to 2nd,
$150 to 3rd
We’ll be updating the katyskijam.com sight over the next few weeks with more Q&A. If you have an questions you’d like
answered, please email them to me and we’ll do our best to add them to our Q&A.
